Contest winners, new contest, and, oh yeah — HOURGLASS is out tomorrow!

We’ve finally made it to the end! If HOURGLASS isn’t already in your local (US and Canadian) bookstore, then it will be as of tomorrow. I am so hoping you guys are going to enjoy this one, and terribly excited to head out on the big tour where I will get to meet so many of you in the Chicago, Atlanta, Austin and Houston areas.

Before I go any farther, though, I should warn you about one little thing with HOURGLASS:

It ends on a cliffhanger.

Some of you are going, “But Claudia, why do you think we would be surprised? EVERNIGHT and STARGAZER ended on cliffhangers too.” Or so some online reviews have read! But I don’t think of their endings as true cliffhangers — they make you want to know what happens next, hopefully, but there’s not that sheer level of gahhhh author I will kill you suspense that I associate with a real true cliffhanger.

HOURGLASS ends on a real true cliffhanger.

I can’t say I didn’t plan it this way, but back when I did plan it this way, the books in the EVERNIGHT series were going to be released six months apart. I reasoned that six months wasn’t too terribly long to leave people in suspense, especially as most people don’t grab the book the very week of release. Of course, as you know, the decision was made to release the books once a year instead — and by the time that happened, I’d written too far in to change the pacing of the story so as to avoid a cliffhanger.

So here it is. I’m sorry if it drives some of you nuts. But I hope you enjoy the book and rest a little easier knowing that AFTERLIFE is finished, already making its way through the publishing pipeline, and will be coming to you … in a year. March 2011.

::runs, hides::

Assuming any of you are still speaking to me, you’ll want to know who won the hourglass in Contest #5! Congratulations are due to Alexandra J., with smaller timers going to runners-up Emily K. and Michelle F.! I enjoyed reading everyone’s theories about HOURGLASS (and AFTERLIFE, for those who’d already read it) — a couple of you were very close about a couple of things, but I think I will still have some surprises in store for you. 😀

Now, for HOURGLASS Contest #6, and the Really Good Prize. The winner in this one gets to name a character in one of my upcoming books! I reserve the right to veto any name that doesn’t fit the universe or is anachronistic or a joke or whatever, but both times I’ve had this prize so far, the winners and I have come to happy agreement. You can choose whether the character name (yours or one you make up) appears in Balthazar’s book, the Titanic novel or SPELLCASTER.

How do you enter?

1) Email me at evernightclaudia at gmail dot com and tell me your favorite scene from HOURGLASS!
2) Tell me which of those three books you’d like to be in, and the name you would want included!
3) Do all of this before Tuesday, April 13, when I will pick the winner!

That’s it! I hope to hear from plenty of you.

Tomorrow I head out on tour see places and dates here!), so I won’t be online much in the next several days. See you guys on the other side, and thanks to all of you for the wonderful encouragement and support!

This is so weird, because my bookstore (Australia) had Hourglass and I just finished reading it yesterday (and yes .. I don’t know *HOW* I will survive until 2011.. gahhh).

Will be entering the Really Good Prize contest 😀 😀

Oh how I wish it was six months to wait instead of a year. I want to know what happens next!

Hourglass was great, by the way. My favorite of all three, so far.

Um…..guys….and Claudia…..I just got Hourglass now…. but seeing all the comments….I’m really thinking if I should put it back to bookshelf and wait for February 2011 to come. Do you think I should start it now? Cause I really don’t want to be mad at Claudia, I love her!!!

I just finished Hourglass, and, yes, I’m so mad at Claudia that I can almost force her to finish afterlife in just one night!!! I don’t how can I survive a whole year. I guess it would have been safer for me to wait a year for reading hourglass. Claudia, Please hurry up!

It not fare

It not fare for the latin american people, that we have to wait the delivery of your book… may be I have it on wesnesday if I am lucky… How other people all ready have the advantage copy???
I love the story and I love the Lucas- Bianca couple… but I wait for Barthazar also…
I know in advantage that for me is imposible choose on of them…
Your are amazing.. that for your time…

Adri from Paraguay

Congrats Claudia!!
LOVED Hourglass it is the best one so far. A year is just too long though. I simply cannot wait for Afterlife! The suspense is killing me!!! haha.

I finished Hourglass yesterday

And I’m really frustrated !!!! Why did you do that ?!!!
I’m very happy I found a bookstore near my home to order your books, because here in France, it’s very difficult to find them !
Do you know if there will be a french translation published one day ? Because my friends doesn’t read english and they are very jealous of me !

I just finished Hourglass, and I can’t imagine waiting an entire year for the next book!
I wish Afterlife would release earlier, the suspense is killing me! 🙁

loved it!!!!!

OMG!!!! LOVED THE BOOK . If i had to sum up the books asomeness i would have to find a word that means Astonishing, astounding, awesome, sensational, spectacular and extraordinary all in one!!!!! i dont think i can wait a whole year!!!!

AMAZING JOB CLAUDIA MY FAVE OUT OF ALL THE BOOKS

Oh, come on! I didn’t even get to read Hourglass yet! I gotta go do that…. A year? :'( that makes me sad… Love the series!

='(

i have to say i loveloveloveloveLOVE your books but i was extremely frustrated by the ending on this one. the first two were far better and i sincerely hope you can fix the damage in Afterlife. if Lucas turns into a vampire without Bianca and if Bianca stays a wraith i really think it will destroy everything you’ve worked for with the other two, and first 3/4 of Hourglass. sorry to be a critic but i thought you should hear All opinions, not just amazing ones. waiting patiently for Afterlife, and others =)

good luck with your writing and tour dates

Oh how you are amazing

Claudia, let me start by saying these books are amazing. I was just looking around the bookstore and picked these books up on the hopes they would be worth the money. I did this Thursday, I got home opened the first page and by 4 am Saturday morning I closed the last page of HourGlass. I COULD not put these books down. I got maybe 5 hours of sleep since I started reading these books. Lol. It was amazing. I do not know how I am going to survive a year!! But I can tell you this, the min I can pre-order the next book I will be doing it and counting down the days till I can read it. So many many many thanks for these books. Its a serious out for me. Nice to escape from real life and fall into pase with Lucas & Bianca. Thank you many times over!!!

I was able to get Evernight and Stargazer last year together, forgot about Hourglass release date and when I made my monthly trip to the bookstore I saw Hourglass and was super excited to curl up with another Evernight Novel. Loved it! Hate that I have to wait ANOTHER YEAR for the next book…

OVER IT!!!!

Hi,
I have LOVED your Evernight books and im so thankful to you for the reading experience.
I do however think that Hourglass was FRUSTRATING and CRAZY! Well mainly just the ending when Bianca becomes a wraith and Lucas gets killed by Charity! I was furious with you Claudia for conveniently changing the wraith rules in regards to appearing in bodily form and felt it was poor writing. I wanted to throw the book against the wall when Charity had her way with Lucas……..
I too am hoping Afterlife will be a skilfully written book where you can justify your poor narrative from Hourglass.

Tours

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why can’t she tour in Baltimore? Sure, i got to meet Debbie phelps and got a book signed hear but why not my favorite author. No one tours here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Oh how you are amazing

Oh my gosh!!!!!!!!!!!!!Same here. Some books are just impossible to put down!!!!!!

Re: confused

How could she not? If she just stopped than a lot of people that wanted to find out what happened to bianca and Lucas would be angry.

Just read

Just read it slowly. it’s a fast paced book that you can take slow.(Not me. I only had it for one day because i stayed up until all hours reading it)

hourglass

I wish i hadn’t read it yet. I read it all in one day and thought it was amazing until the end and know I’m mad and can’t wait until next year!
